By Nona Walker The Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program awarded 15 scholarships at the 35th recognition evening for Transylvania CountySchools, which was held on Thursday, May 17, in the BrevardHigh School Auditorium. The event began with remarks by Board of Education Vice Chair Ron Kiviniemi, who noted that the opportunity for school board members to honor students and teachers and recognize their achievements is the highlight of the year for board members. He also saluted the families of students whose encouragement and leadership allow the students to flourish. Last week, the Connestee Falls Member Information Committee (MIC) hosted an informational program about the Connestee Falls Scholarship. Speakers included: Bill Medl, chair of the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship program, Ashari Arkansas, scholarship recipient, Jennifer Hart Merrell, local business supporter and Glenda McCarson, VP of Blue Ridge Community College Transylvania campus.
On Tuesday, April 24, the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program kicked off its 31 year of raising money for scholarships for Transylvania County residents. The new chair of the program, Bill Medl, introduced several Connestee residents who are joining the all-volunteer organization. Bryan O’Neill joins Medl and Gay Coffin as a co-chair of the program; Diane Adler-Wailes and Susan Edmonds replace Medl as education liaison co-chairs; Deb Peppenelli is the new Raffle and Silent Auction chair; Tom McMurray is running the pickleball tournament, and Suzanne Bailey is now in charge of the Tennis Tournament.
