Connestee Falls Student Scholarships Awarded

May 27, 2022

On Thursday, May 19, 20 seniors from Brevard and Rosman high schools took the stage to receive scholarships from the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program (CFSSP). This year’s scholarship recipients were Jasmine Powell, Senait Richmond, Wyatt Owen, Jessica Kinsey, Nicole Vargas Sancho, Joseph Smith, Cassidy Ayers, Townsend Dierauf, Taylar Grieves, Mason Bandhauer, Erin Huter, Abram Justice, Jessica Chappell, Ivy Scott, Garrett Swicegood, Jaida Ansari, Samuel Kissinger, Jarek Stewart-Karolewics, Trista Bryson and Chesney Perry.

Anyone who has met this group of young people will tell you they are accomplished and determined. This group includes members of National Honor Society and Transylvania and North Carolina Scholars. Many have completed advanced placement and college level courses and certificate programs while participating in extracurricular arts, music and sports. Other students also volunteer with community and church organizations and work in local businesses.

According to Gay Coffin, CFSSP student liaison, “The pandemic disrupted many of these special ceremonies over the last couple of years, but this year the high school awards ceremony was in person and several members of the CFSSP board were fortunate enough to attend. It was an incredible evening, meeting these graduating seniors who worked so hard throughout high school and will continue to pursue their academic dreams.”

The CFSSP depends entirely on the generous, continued support of Brevard and Transylvania County businesses and the Connestee Falls and Transylvania County communities. During the last 35 years, individual and business contributions to the scholarship program have enabled over 700 Transylvania County residents to further their education in colleges and trade schools.

The 2022 fundraising campaign is in full swing, with plans underway for bocce, golf, tennis and pickle ball tournaments, the annual silent auction and special events. For information about the scholarship fund and fund-raising activities, visit the CFSSP website at www.cfscholarships.org.
