2019 Events

Connestee Chorale Music Revue - Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17

On May 16 and 17, the Connestee Chorale presented "Thank You for the Music," an evening of musical entertainment, to sold-out audiences, with ticket proceeds from the concerts benefiting the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program. Spanning several decades of music from Broadway, film, television, and the pop culture, the program featured the 62-voice chorale, small instrumental and vocal groups, and soloists.   Highlights from the show included “42ndStreet,” “Luck Be A Lady,”  “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In,” “A Wonderful World,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water," “Route 66,” “City of Stars,” and “Thank You for the Music.”  The 12-piece Connestee Chorale Orchestra played selections before the program began, during intermission, and a special arrangement of a medley of songs from “Oklahoma” during the program.   All of the musicians in the show are residents of the Connestee Falls community.

Casino Night - June 15th and October 12th

Your wallets and your sense of humor were all you needed to join the fun for a good cause! For the eighth year, Gary Dodge presented Casino Night on June 15- the first of two for 2019. If you missed it, there will be another on October 12. About 150 people enjoyed the delicious buffet and then tried to beat the house at Black Jack, poker, chuck-a-luck, roulette and craps. No luck, of course - Gary's well-trained dealers kept things rolling. After play, chips were exchanged for raffle tickets and great prizes were distributed. A great time was had by all!

Tennis Tournament - July 12 and 13th

The annual tennis tournament for the purpose of raising funds for the Scholarship program took place on July 13 on our Connestee courts. A number of our tennis playing ladies organized the event and under the direction of Suzanne Bailey and Cindy Cast made it a rousing success. The tournament had twenty-four participants and RAISED OVER $7000. Tournament play began Saturday morning and play continued until a sprinkle of rain cut the last set a bit short. The rain ceased and our tournament volunteers complimented the tournament with a cookout Saturday afternoon at Atagahi Park. A great time was had by all. Having fun playing tennis while raising scholarship funds for worthy Transylvania county students...doesn’t get any better than that.

Speaking of worthy Transylvania County students…. At the pre-tournament party on Friday night at Atagahi Park, Chase Bishop was our student speaker. A 2019 graduate of Brevard High School and recipient of a Connestee scholarship, he is a very personable young man who spoke eloquently about how much he appreciates his scholarship!

Bocce Tournament

August 08, 2019

The Sixth Annual Bocce Tournament was held on a beautiful sunny day at the courts.  Forty-four players constituted eleven teams for a single-elimination round of games.  Teams were chosen at random among the group of donors, and over $3,600 was collected for the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program.

Winners of the Tournament, each receiving a $25 Clubhouse dining gift certificate, were: Ken Nagorsen, Norm Campbell, Mary Ann Villalva, and Elaine Mihalas, pictured at left with Bryan O'Neill, Scholarship Program chair.

Bowling for $cholar Dollar$

August 25, 2019

The second annual Bowling for $cholar Dollar$ event was a great success! Forty people bowled and there were several groupies cheering for the teams. No injuries were reported and $1000 was raised for the students of Transylvania County. Thanks to Rockin' Bowl for their donation of the space and shoes. After a very spirited competition, the official winners of the coveted trophies were: #1. Up Your Alley, #2. Alley Cats, and #3. Arthur-Itis

Golf Tournament - Men and Couples

September 13, 2019

The participants in Friday's well-attended tournament were treated to excellent weather. Sponsor signs were well displayed throughout the golf course. Many mulligans were purchased - and were reflected in the low scores. Multiple birdies and a few eagles were properly celebrated and a good time was had by all!

Golf Tournament - Ladies and Business

September 14, 2019

There was room for more golfers on Saturday, but those who participated were treated to another fine day of golf. The weather cooperated beautifully, with rain falling only after everyone was in the clubhouse having lunch and hearing the results of the competition. We hope to have more business sponsors competing on our course next year!

Celebration of Education Gala

September 20, 2019

"An Evening of Inspiration" was indeed a special evening at the Connestee Falls Clubhouse. Chef's excellent menu included oysters and shrimp, crawfish and corn fritters with cajun aioli, carved strip loin, shrimp and grits, roasted chicken breast with sauce supreme, and yummy desserts. The silent auction featured great art, catered dinners, horseback riding, pottery, wooden puzzles, and quilts, among many other items. Most important, donors heard from a student from each school the Program supports: Melissa Rector talked about being a "non-traditional" student at Blue Ridge Community College and her career in administration at Ingles; Matthew Kelley from Brevard College described the opportunities that have opened to him there as a result of his scholarship; and Matthew Romero, representing Transylvania County Schools, talked about his childhood in the Philippines and his path to the future after being adopted by a Brevard couple. A grand evening of inspiration for all!

Pickleball Tournament - September 26 through 28th

With excellent pickleball being played every day, great competition and sportsmanship characterized the 9th annual Pickleball Tournament. Congratulations to all the medalists! It appears that the tournament will result in a contribution of more than $7100 to the Scholarship Program – a meaningful part of the total raised this year.

Planning for next year’s tournament has already begun. It is expected to be scheduled again in late September and will run from Friday through Sunday. More details to follow!
